Shipping Containers in Astoria: Sales, Rentals, and Delivery
Finding suitable storage space in Astoria can be challenging, whether you are renovating a home, managing a construction site, preparing for a move, or storing business equipment. Grand Box NorthWest provides shipping containers in Astoria, Oregon, for customers who need secure and convenient storage delivered directly to their property. Our containers can support residential, commercial, construction, marine, and industrial storage needs. With options to buy, rent, or rent to own, you can choose an arrangement that fits your project, available space, and budget.
Buying or Renting Shipping Containers in Astoria
Grand Box NorthWest offers new and used shipping containers in several sizes and condition grades. Available options may include standard 20-foot containers, 40-foot high-cube containers, cargo-worthy containers, and used wind-and-watertight containers.
Buying a shipping container may make sense when you need storage for several years or want the freedom to modify the unit. Purchased containers are commonly used for construction equipment, tools, business inventory, household belongings, and long-term property storage.
For temporary projects, renting a storage container provides useful space without requiring a long-term purchase. Rental options include compact 8-foot by 6.5-foot units and larger 20-foot and 40-foot containers. These can work well during moves, renovations, seasonal business changes, or construction projects with a defined timeline.
Grand Box NorthWest also offers a rent-to-own program for customers who want to work towards ownership while making monthly payments. Terms are available for up to four years, subject to the program requirements.
Not sure which arrangement is right for you? Tell us what you need to store, how long you expect to use the container, and where it will be placed. We can help you compare the available options.

Storage for Astoria’s Coastal Conditions
Astoria’s location near the Columbia River and Pacific Ocean means that rain, wind, moisture, and changing temperatures should be considered when planning outdoor storage.
Our used storage containers are inspected to confirm they are wind and watertight unless otherwise stated. This helps keep outside rain and wind away from tools, equipment, furniture, inventory, and other stored belongings.
However, a wind-and-watertight container is not the same as a climate-controlled storage space. Moisture can still develop inside a container when warm air meets cooler steel surfaces. If you plan to store moisture-sensitive items, ask about ventilation, insulation, shelving, or an insulated non-operating refrigerated container.
Preparing a level placement area with suitable drainage can also help keep your container stable and reduce contact with standing water. Depending on the property, railroad ties, concrete blocks, gravel, or another suitable base may be recommended.
Professional Container Delivery and Placement in Astoria
Grand Box NorthWest provides shipping container delivery throughout Astoria and the surrounding North Oregon Coast.
Astoria has a combination of waterfront properties, established neighbourhoods, steep hillside streets, commercial areas, and rural properties outside the city. These locations can have very different access and placement requirements. Before scheduling delivery, our team will review important details such as:
- The size and condition of the delivery area
- Street, driveway, and gate access
- The slope and firmness of the ground
- Trees, buildings, fences, and overhead utility lines
- The preferred direction of the container doors
- The space available for the delivery truck to manoeuvre
Photos, measurements, and a description of the property can help us choose the most suitable delivery method. If access is limited, let us know before ordering so we can discuss the available options.
Once the container has been placed, it is ready to be loaded and used. If you are renting, Grand Box NorthWest can arrange collection when you no longer need the unit.
How Astoria Residents and Businesses Use Storage Containers
Shipping containers provide useful storage for many types of properties and projects in the Astoria area.
Home Renovations and Repairs
Astoria has many established homes, including properties on steep hillsides where transporting belongings to a separate storage facility may be inconvenient. An on-site container gives homeowners a place to store furniture, appliances, boxes, and building materials while work is completed.
Moving and Relocation
A portable container allows you to pack at your own pace instead of loading and unloading everything in one day. Once the container is ready, Grand Box NorthWest can arrange transport through its shipping container moving service.
Construction and Contracting
Contractors can use lockable steel containers to store tools, equipment, building materials, and safety supplies at job sites. Keeping these items at the property can reduce daily transport and provide convenient access throughout the project.
Marine and Waterfront Businesses
Astoria’s waterfront supports commercial fishing, marine services, boaters, industrial activity, and other port-related operations. Containers can provide additional space for suitable tools, parts, equipment, and non-hazardous supplies when indoor storage is limited.
Customers storing equipment near coastal or waterfront areas should regularly inspect the container exterior and address scratches or areas of corrosion as needed.
Retail, Hospitality, and Small Businesses
Restaurants, retailers, hospitality businesses, and other local companies may need extra room for seasonal inventory, furniture, event supplies, packaging, or equipment. A container placed at an approved business property can provide additional storage without requiring a separate warehouse.
Rural Properties
Customers outside central Astoria can use containers for tools, machinery, feed, landscaping equipment, and property maintenance supplies. The correct container size will depend on the available space, access route, and intended use.
Container Moving and Modification Options
If you are moving within Astoria or relocating elsewhere in Oregon, we can transport your loaded container to its next approved location. This allows you to use one container for both temporary storage and moving.
Customers who purchase a container can also ask about shipping container modifications. Available modifications may include:
- Personnel doors
- Roll-up doors
- Additional cargo doors
- Windows and vents
- Lockboxes
- Shelving and partitions
- Insulation and interior lining
- Exterior paint
Modification options depend on the selected container, intended use, available inventory, and project requirements. Customers should confirm local zoning, building, electrical, and placement requirements before ordering a modified container.
Container Delivery Methods
Grand Box NorthWest uses three delivery methods. The right option will depend on the container size, property layout, ground conditions, and available manoeuvring space.
Tiltdeck Delivery
Tiltdeck delivery is generally the most affordable option. However, it requires enough room for the truck and trailer to access the property, position the container, and leave safely.
Rollback Delivery
Rollback trucks provide faster delivery and greater manoeuvrability than a standard tiltdeck in some locations. This method may work well when the site has less turning space.
Mule Delivery
The Mule provides the most precise placement option. It may be recommended for properties where the container must be moved into a tighter or more specific position after being unloaded.
Because Astoria properties vary considerably, contact us with your delivery address and site details. We will help determine which method is most appropriate.
